Intercambiando «lindezas» sobre su calvicie con un fisioterapeuta que contraté para el fútbol base del Kitchee https://www.kitchee.com, me dijo que si yo hubiera nacido en la selva no hubiera sobrevivido. Posiblemente no le faltaba razón teniendo en cuenta que le había explicado que me rompí los ligamentos de la rodilla un par de veces y que nací miope y usando uno de mis ojos en un porcentaje demasiado bajo. Volví a pensar en esa charla viendo a los ucranianos desplazarse buscando un lugar seguro. Y también cada vez que veo imágenes de refugiados. Quizá el lugar donde nacemos condicione nuestras vidas, pero qué injusto es que las malas decisiones de los políticos afecten gravemente las vidas de los ciudadanos pudiendo incluso causarles la muerte, cuando se supone que simplemente deberían preocuparse por disfrutar de la vida allá donde les haya tocado vivir.
Por suerte, nací en Tarragona y no en ninguna selva. Y mis padres se esforzaron para poder llevarme al oculista a la Clínica Barraquer https://www.barraquer.com/es. Hace unos meses estuve allí, una de las pocas veces que he ido solo pues siempre me acompañaban ellos. Me vinieron recuerdos de muchas de las visitas que hicimos a la clínica, de ver cada año a los mismos doctores y trabajadores y, sin pensar en que yo también iba creciendo, fijarme en cómo iban cambiando todos ellos pese a que los seguía reconociendo.
La clínica Barraquer tiene mucho prestigio a nivel internacional y por ello viene gente de diferentes nacionalidades. En esa época cuando aún no había recorrido mundo, llamaban especialmente mi atención por sus vestimentas los que venían de países árabes. Además, el edificio es un emblema arquitectónico de la ciudad de Barcelona. Desde hace casi veinte años disponen de su propia fundación https://www.barraquer.com/fundacion con el objetivo inicial de proporcionar tratamientos oftalmológicos a las poblaciones en zonas deprimidas del mundo, pasando a promover la acción local médica, de prevención, formación e investigación sin descuidar la cooperación internacional pero quizá desde un lado más docente.
Hoy es el día del padre. Así que el video musical de la entrada de hoy en el blog va dedicado para todos los padres, especialmente para los que desde algún lugar nos siguen observando y también para los que los echamos de menos. En alguna entrada del blog comenté que, a veces, hacemos nuestras las canciones dándoles el significado que nos convenga. En este caso pienso que mi padre puede leer mi mente desde donde me esté viendo. Y espero que los políticos lleguen a la misma reflexión y eso les haga tomar mejores decisiones que no avergüencen a su progenitor.
Este año se cumplen nada más y nada menos que cuarenta años desde la publicación de la canción «Eye In The Sky» y del álbum con el mismo nombre, que fue el más popular de la banda y el que más vendió pero no el que uno de sus creadores, el señor Alan Parsons, consideraba el mejor. The Alan Parsons Project https://www.the-alan-parsons-project.com fue una banda de música formada en Londres, liderada por Alan Parsons http://www.alanparsonsmusic.com y Eric Woolfson https://www.ericwoolfsonmusic.com y que la mantuvieron activa de 1975 a 1990. Antes de involucrarse más en su faceta de músico y compositor y formar la banda, Parsons había participado como ingeniero de sonido en álbumes de The Beatles y Pink Floyd. Tras la disolución del grupo, Woolfson tuvo éxito como compositor de musicales. Curiosamente, los podríamos relacionar con Barcelona por su álbum Gaudi, inspirado en la figura del conocido arquitecto Antoni Gaudí y con el que finalizaron su trayectoria musical como grupo musical en activo. Siempre que visito la clínica Barraquer y veo alguno de los murales de las paredes acabo recordando el ojo de la portada del álbum Eye In the Sky e, inevitablemente, imagino a Gaudí paseando por Barcelona mientras suena de fondo «La Sagrada Familia», la canción que abría el álbum en su memoria.

Eye In the Sky

Perhaps the place where we are born determines our lifes, but how unfair it is that the bad decisions of politicians seriously affect the lifes of citizens and can even cause their death, when they are supposed to simply worry about enjoying life wherever they live.
Luckily, I was born in Tarragona and not in any jungle. And my parents made an effort to take me to the eye doctor at the Barraquer Clinic https://www.barraquer.com/es. I was there again few months ago, one of the few times I went alone because my parents always accompanied me. Memories came to me of many of the visits we made to the clinic, seeing the same doctors and workers every year and, without thinking that I was also growing up, noticing how all of them were changing despite the fact that I still could recognize them.
The Barraquer clinic has a lot of international prestige and that is why people of different nationalities want to visit the eye doctor there. At that time, when I had not yet traveled the world, those who came from Arab countries especially called my attention for their clothing. In addition, the building is an architectural emblem of the city of Barcelona. For almost twenty years they have had their own foundation https://www.barraquer.com/fundacion with the initial objective of providing ophthalmological treatments to populations in deprived areas of the world, going on to promote local medical action, prevention, training and research without neglecting international cooperation but perhaps from a more educational side.
Today is father’s day. So the music video for today’s blog post is specially dedicated to all parents, especially to those who continue watching us from somewhere high above the clouds and also to those of us who miss them. In one of my previous blog entries I wrote that, sometimes, we make the songs our own, giving them the meaning that suits us. On this case I think my father can read my mind from wherever he is looking at me. And I hope that politicians come to the same reflection and that makes them take better decisions that do not embarrass their father.
This year marks forty years since the publication of the song «Eye In The Sky» and the album with the same name, which was the most popular of the band but not the one that one of its creators, Mr. Alan Parsons, considered the best. Before forming the band and becoming more involved as a musician and songwriter, Parsons had worked as a sound engineer on albums by The Beatles and Pink Floyd. Following the group’s dissolution, Woolfson found success as a composer of musicals. Curiously enough, we could relate them to Barcelona because of their Gaudi album, inspired by the figure of the well-known architect Antoni Gaudí and with which they ended their musical career as an active musical group. Whenever I visit the Barraquer clinic and see one of the murals on the walls, I end up remembering the eye on the cover of the Eye In the Sky album and then I imagine Gaudí walking around Barcelona while «La Sagrada Familia» plays in the background, the song that opened the album in his memory.
